Rock & Roll didn’t, and doesn’t, appear out of nowhere. There are many genres, cultures, histories, and ironically traditions that came before and continue to exert influence. These influences contain various threads that I’ll follow each week to reveal connections and relationships between the popular music of today and the music of other times and places. If connections between Hymn-Lining and P-Funk, or 1700s military Fife and Drum music and 1960s Rock sound dubious to you, I’d love to try to convince you otherwise.
